Today, Mrs. Brooks was not in. In her place instead was her “Excellency” – Queen Suzy. She welcomed us at the door this morning, giving each student the opportunity to choose a job.
Welcome to Colony 309.... Your Queen and the members of her parliament are proud to have you representing our glorious land in a new, unforgiving world. Enjoy your adventure. There was some small print at the bottom, but few read it. I think it said something about taxes???
It wasn’t long before the morning got rolling, and Queen Suzy filled everyone in on the Big Plan for the colony. Apparently, it costs a lot of money to run a colony! Who knew? Because of that, Queen Suzy decided to impose some taxes on her (mostly) loyal subjects. Using jellybeans as currency, colonists were shown the following tax structure:
