This is a week that I am truly thankful I was granted patience as a personality trait. I’ve spent a LOT of time sitting, a LOT of time listening, a LOT of time watching, a LOT of time waiting and a LOT of time missing YOU!!
I can’t talk about my service until I return to school, so that will have to wait. Let’s just say I’m taking LOTS of notes and learning a whole bunch. I have to sit for long hours without getting much of a break, and I can’t ask any questions to make sure I understand what I’m hearing. By the end of the day, my brain is mush and I am tired.
I can’t wait to get back to school!
In the meantime, I’ve been spending time at home on the computer watching this pair of American Bald Eagles in Decorah, Iowa. There are two webcams broadcasting live, 24-hours a day, 7 days a week from 60 feet in the air, focused on the eagles’ nest.
The nest is about 5-6 feet across, about 5 feet deep and it weighs 1.5 tons. Snuggled deep in the nest are three eaglets – each hatched within the last few days. Lots and LOTS of people have been watching this little family and I am absolutely hooked.
I’ve seen both the mom and the dad in the nest, I’ve seen the babies eating, I’ve seen one eagle bring a big ‘ole fish to the nest. In fact, there is a whole carcass pile on the side of the nest where all of the prey is piling up.
I think, if our computers can handle it, I’ll plan on putting the broadcast during the school day. You can hear the eaglets peeping, and other noises in the background. It’s really cool!
So, drop me a note to say hi, and then take a look at the video here:
