Weekend Inspiration

This was one of those weekends where I was immersed in all things Education.  I recognize the feeling, because it is Sunday night and I’m hoping I can stay awake to finish everything I’ve set my mind to.

My weekend left me with so many ideas for newsletter articles. Though I cannot write them all tonight, I can guarantee I will refer back to this experience as I author them later this year.  However….

I promised my students I would write about BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) this week. They are excited to get their hands on mobile devices in Room 204, and I can already tell they are poised to take on the responsibility. Though I’ve sent home the BYOD agreement, let me share a few reminders with everyone:byod

.
1.  BYOD days are only on Mondays and Fridays at this point. Students are welcome to bring their technology only those two days once their permission slip is signed.

.
2.  If students don’t bring devices, we have enough iPads to use. They have been explicitly warned NOT to bug their parents if the Family Decision is not to bring a device. In fact, they should be able to give you reasons why. We all agreed.

.
3.  If you are wondering about how things went last year, be SURE to visit the iPaddling pages on our blog. The “Reflecting on the Journey” post sums it all up nicely.

.
4. Students will be earning an iPaddling License in order to drive their mobile device independently in class. This license can be revoked at any time, and must be earned back when students break the rules set forth in our class.

For me, this is an opportunity, a privilege, a rarity. BYOD is something I take seriously and am ever reflecting on this journey for the benefit of us all.

🙂 We are headed to Plimoth Plantation on Friday, Nov. 15th. $5.00 per student, $18.00 per adult if you’d like to chaperone. Notice will come home soon!

🙂 The garden Committee has posed a math challenge for students. I’ve posted it on the blog and in the classroom for interested students. It’s due Friday.

🙂 Math In Focus Parent University is Oct 7 with Phyllis Youcatonis. She is incredible. You should be there! Here you can find the  Math in Focus Resources for Teachers, Parents, and Students if you need to download them!

🙂 Room 204 is on Twitter! Follow us at @ThirdGraders!

You Were Made to be Awesome!
