Virtually Exciting!

“While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.” ~Schwindt

I was out on Friday for an appointment and a few meetings. I found myself with enough time at 11:00 am to connect with Room 309 via Skype. Mrs. Ansley was kind enough to help, so when the students entered the computer lab, there I was up on the SMARTBoard, greeting them each by name.

We had already decided that the lesson for the day would be pretty typical for a trip to the lab. Type To Learn to practice their keyboarding skills, and then off we went to the Blog…

Students were required to watch 3 video book talks, and then leave a comment on the blog about what a plan for improving their own book talks. They also had to let me know what they thought about having a Virtual Teacher.

For me? It was such a neat way to connect with my students. I don’t know who was more excited!! I can’t help but think about other ways to use Skype in the classroom — the possibilities are endless.

I was thinking that Skype conferences might be an option for those who want a quick check-in, but not a full appointment. Let me know if you want to give it a try!

Check out the pics, book talks, and comments on the blog!!

Next week is MCAS. Homework will be lighter. Please get lots of sleep, eat breakfast and arrive on time. I’m looking for donations of healthy-ish snacks for us to share those 2 days. Even # students can donate on Tuesday, odd #’s on Thursday. Juice boxes, cheese sticks, fruit, veggies, chips & salsa, banana bread, fruit snacks, etc… My only request is that you send in enough for 20 students to each have exactly the same size, shape or flavor. Otherwise? It gets hairy trying to figure out who – gets – what.

Dream Big,

Mrs. Brooks
