Homework Happenings

I have spent considerable time this year on homework.  Between Kendyl, Carson and myself, we are doing homework several hours per day!  While there are those rare, blissful days where we each work independently on our own assignments, more often than not, they both need my help.

As a parent, it is often difficult for me to figure out what role I should assume in the homework realm.  Reading directions, monitoring focus, offering advice, and correcting errors fill my evenings.  I often wonder how the parents of my students spend their homework sessions??   What I hope – is that for the most part, your children are becoming more independent.  By the end of the year, I would like them to be self-sufficient on nearly all assignments.  To reach that goal, your child has to understand that you are there only if they REALLY need you.

Trust your judgment. It is okay if they get some answers wrong – but if they need support on a difficult concept, it is okay to help them out.  When projects roll around, they will need assistance with ideas, time management, and quality control.  Projects are still new to them, and they will need you.
Remember, the priority should be an early bedtime.  Never let homework interfere with your child getting to bed on time.  I really hope that our Homework Menu is working out well for all of you.  I welcome feedback, as the Menu is new for us this year, and it may need some tweaking. Similarly, if homework becomes too much of a struggle for anyone, please let me know, so we can make adjustments to fit your child’s needs.

What’s To Come:

🙂 Did you know that our blog has an up-to-date Google Calendar? Click on Dates To Remember on the right sidebar to check it out!

🙂 We’re starting a new Math unit on measurement – a tough one! Pull out your rulers and have your kids measure everything – the practice will help!!

🙂 Last week a notice came home for our upcoming trip to Plimoth Plantation. If you are ordering a lunch, send in the form and the payment this week. If you are interested in chaperoning ($15), let me know.  Student fee is $5.

Hi Mrs. Brooks, How are you doing?? Remember that when I came to Mullen-Hall to come visit?? I went to Ice hockey last week and it was the practice game. When I got on the Ice, I started to play the game and I was playing center. Thats means that you get come where the puck is going to be in the middle. When I got skated where the puck is and I got it and I pass it to the wall and the player got the puck and shot it right threw the gole where the other team is. Ice hockey is a fun sport to play. The new airline that’s fly out of BWI is Vision Airlines going to one country. Not other places. with my dad I useally fly Southwest. My first flight when I was 5 I flew on my first flight on Southwest to Loiseiville and My secon flight to Kansas city and my third flight is From BWI-PVD. When I was landing in BWI Airport on Delta I did not know that I was going back to BWI. When I got to Franconia Governmental center, My dad went like, Hey how about another airplane ride?? And I was like Yes which airline?? And my dad went like, which airline?? How about your favorite. and I went YYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!
(Southwest Airlines!) And my dad went like, The plane will will be a 20 minute delayed and I went like, Well then, I better eat some of my canty to make my cold go away. And I went to have lunch and we went to my dad’s office and off to the airport and I ate some of my candy and I fall asleep and I miss the BWI Airport exit signs. when we got to the airport, outside, there’s a ticket counter and we went up and ticket agent went like, where are you going?? and My dad went like, to Providence rhode Island, and the ticket agent went like, OK. and my dad went like, well the plane is going to be a little late. Andwe went inside the airport and went like, this is the plane is going to be look like. I seen this plane before, and my dad knows. When we got on the plane I went like, aww man and
they switch seats and I sat at the window looking at the wing. so the airline I toke is Delta connection and Delta And Southwest. And that what happen. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 Jonathan

Hi Jonathan! What a fun surprise for you – I love surprises like that – when I have no idea what is coming and then, “wham!” you get all excited. I’m so glad you were able to come up for a visit – and it was a super treat for me to see you!!

And I never knew candy could make a cold go away! I should have started that a week ago, and then I’d feel much better by now!! Sheesh!

      Have a wonderful Sunday, Jonathan!!!

      Love,
      Mrs. Brooks

    Hi Jonathan,

I am doing well. We went to Plimoth Plantation yesterday – do you remember visiting there when you were in third grade?? What a great trip that was! We were lucky yesterday because the weather was so warm. This weekend I’m going to Boston for a Duck Tour and to go on the Sky Walk and to have dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. It will be a fun day with my family. I am jealous that you get to go camping!! It must still be warm down there!! But, ice hockey isn’t so warm, is it, ha ha???

    Have a super day!
    Love,
    Mrs. Brooks

    Hi Jonathan,

It makes sense, now that you say it, that you won’t have ice hockey this weekend, if you are camping :).

I erased the lyrics from the Justin Bieber song (even though I LOVE them!!!) because they are soooooooo long and take up a lot of memory :). You are welcome to share your favorite part of them with me, though!!!

    xxoo

Hi Mrs. Brooks, I will find out what airline an I taking on. I think it
will be delta the one I wanted to fly on that big plane to depart from BWI Airport in the washington area in MD. One time, I flew American Airlines flight 623 DFW on that 3 hour flight because it was a storm there in baltimore when I depart on American Airlines.

    Hi Jonathan!
How was winter camping? Did you enjoy yourself? Was it cold! Are you flying somewhere for Thanksgiving – that’s my guess because of your last message. Can’t wait to hear all about it.

    Thanks for the note!
    Love,
    Mrs. Brooks
