Our house is coming together slowly since major water damage nearly 2 years ago. Today I was able to do a project more fun than tiling walls, or painting ceilings, or installing hardwood. Today I breathed new life into a dated mirror for our new master bathroom:

The mirror is about 10 years old, with a silver/gold-ish shiny finish. A little too fancy for our new bathroom.
After cruising around Pinterest, I came across this post from Colleen at Just Paint It. I liked the idea of using paint I already own, and her planter looked great! I did a practice run on a ceramic planter before I touched the mirror. I wanted to make sure I liked the colors:
I used construction paper and blue tape to mask off the mirror itself. I am a VERY messy painter and knew that my prep work would be important.
I carried the mirror out to the deck where my our water-damaged dining room table was waiting. I started with a base coat of the two darker shades, using a stiff brush to stipple the entire frame including the sides.
I then used a damp rag to wipe off the raised areas so the metallic frame would show through:
I repeated the same steps with both of the next two shades. Stipple and wipe:
Finally, I sprayed the whole frame with a matte finish and removed the paper and tape.
Though the bathroom is nowhere near ready for me to hang the mirror, I did bring it in and snapped a few more pictures in the sunlight. I think it will look awesome and I’ll be sure to post a photo when the bathroom is done.
Oh! These are the colors I used:
That’s about it for “fun” projects for now… Our journey continues…
