February Flurries

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but we have not had one full week of school since coming back from December Break.!

Still?  We’ve managed to squeeze in lots of challenging work in these past few weeks.  Room 309 third graders are all feeling especially challenged by those pesky Multiplication Facts!!!  About 3 days per week, we are taking quizzes to further develop and measure our skills.

These 4 quizzes are in a series, and get progressively harder. Students must score a 100 on each quiz two times before moving on to the next one.  16 problems in 60 seconds gets trickier once they hit those more challenging facts.

To practice, students can be using flash cards, old quizzes, oral practice, or our Fact Fluency program online.  The same program we use in the computer lab can also be accessed while at home.  (LINK OVER THERE –> –>)

Five minutes per night is really all it takes – but imagine how much progress can be made if each student practiced for 10 minutes per night!!

🙂 It’s been REALLY cold at recess, and so I’d like to remind everyone to bring clothes fit for the weather.  I’ve seen lots of shivery students these past few weeks, brrrrrrrr!

🙂 Tomorrow is an early-release day.  As teachers, we will be working more in-depth on comprehension strategies to improve student learning. I love learning about new ideas!!

🙂 Book Talks started this past Friday and our first group (the Spring group) did a wonderful job.  Keep up the good work!!

Stand Tall,

Mrs. Brooks
