It’s that time again – Yaay!! – International Dot Day is celebrated on September 15th-ish every year. Teachers far and wide sit down with their students, and read them The Dot by Peter Reynolds. The endearing story celebrates creativity, and encourages us to make our mark on the world (no matter how small) to see just where it takes us.
Listen to the story here to get started:
We listened to Peter Reynolds read the story himself while we followed along on the SMARTBoard. Mrs. Brooks has a program called Big Screen Books, that allows us to interact with the text as we read along. Check out the program here: Big Screen Books. We can’t wait to see what new books are released for us to try out!
Here we are, just after watching the story – listening to a video about Peter and his personal journey as an artist and author.
After watching, we started work on our own Dots!
Following written directions on the IWB (Interactive White Board):
And here are our finished Dots! I was so impressed by the creativity each student displayed in their oil-pastel creations!! Bravo!!
