Young Authors

This year in our writing program, we will be exploring several writing genres….  Personal Narrative, Fiction, Poetry and Research Reports.  Student writing will be featured here on the blog, much like the following story from a former student, Danielle….

Cat in the Couch

by: Danielle

“Really?” I asked, when Heidi said Booca had gotten into the couch and was stuck there yesterday.  I had tone to Heidi’s house for another sleepover.  Heidi was telling us a story.

“So yesterday, when I was gone teaching Pilates, Booca somehow got stuck inside the couch.”

“Seriously?” I said again.

“Shush! I’m telling you a story” she said real silly and then went on…. “When I got home I was so worried Booca hadn’t eaten anything and I couldn’t find her.”

I (Danielle) was so worried I was shaking, because I hadn’t seen Booca around the house yet.  Had something bad happened to her, I thought?  “You must have been nervous.” I said quietly.

“I was.” She said back and continued telling the story.  “So, finally, I heard “Meeeoowwww!!”  I was so happy to hear her again, except I didn’t know where she was, so I followed the stream of scared meows.  Finally, I put my ear to the couch and….”

I thought Booca had died, so I had to burst out “Let me guess, you found her!” I yelled.

“Yes, but don’t stop me in mid-sentence” she said back.

I was happy to hear that she was alive, I said in my head with a big smile on my face.

“Let me continue my story.  I knew Booca was in the couch, so I looked all over the couch and finally found where she had gotten in.  Booca was stuck in the part of the couch where all of the wood holding it together is.  I lifted Booca out and she ran over to her food.”

“Heidi, that was a good story!” I told her.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up!  The story was not over yet!” Heidi started where she left off:  “So, I ran upstairs and quickly got a couch cover for the couch so it would not happen again.  When I came down, I heard a meow from deep inside the couch.  I peeked my head inside the hole only to find Booca had gotten stuck again!!!  I lifted her out one last time and put the couch cover on.  THE END!” Heidi said.

“Yes, wonderful story, Heidi.” I said, laughing.

After the story, I got up and went straight to Booca and started patting her.

      Hi Victoria,

I’m so happy to see your post! It has been about 10 weeks of working on this blog – a little bit every day. I love the Lemonade Stand game, too. I’m not always good at it because I get pretty greedy and want a lot of money. The Falmouth Schools gives every teacher a blog, but it is new to most teachers so they haven’t started using it. Today I taught a class at Gillette Stadium about blogging. I was very nervous, but it was WAY fun! See you tomorrow!! XXXOO Mrs. Brooks
